Nathan Bransford Blog Page

An agent for Curtis Brown, every once in a while (several times a year) Nathan runs a contest for people to submit a first paragraph or a first line

to his blog. The ones he chooses as winners can get a free crit or assistance with a query letter, and many of them go on to be clients of his.

This is another one of his first paragraph contests. So, if you have a WIP, send in the first paragraph, only the first paragraph, and see what

he says.

Apparently my 'search is over' because my 'publisher is just a few clicks away'

Please do not get sucked into this. There are enough crappy and crooked shilks out there, we don't need to sacrifice our literary babies on their altars.

Any company involved with publishing that does a fecking Texas Two-Step around the issue of 'Do I have to pay for this?' in their FAQ is out to screw you.

One of them has anonymously started a blog about her rejections and how she works. It might make for some interesting reading and give us some insight as to what the heck we are doing wrong!!

I will change this once i know the problem is resolved.

DO NOT go to the website for Philip G Spitzer Literary Agents. I went to their site this morning, it opened, and a moment later my computer was opening up dozens of PDF files about drug purchasing. (Yes, i have my security set so high it shouldn't be able to pass a frigging flax seed, but there ya go). The information my security service showed was that the virus came with the address of the agent. My computer is de-virusing now... ...
