I'm writing something in 1st person, but wanted to add a preface to it. It would be when the protagonist is a newborn baby and an important event happens, but of course the protagonist wouldn't be able to remember the event being so young. How can I add it to the story without it being a memory in 1st person? I hope this makes sense.

Thinking recently due to my own sluffing of brain cells and reading/hearing over the years how 'famous' writers get up at odd hours (for me) -pre-dawn, dawn, etc. and write so long, then go back to bed or whatever.

When younger, my personal brain peak was between 10 am and 2 pm, other times, less productive. SO...I am curious as to when (time/times) and/or conditions (in bed, kitchen table, dedicated office space, etc.) that people find best. Or it when time is just squeezed in?

So... being in the middle of a brain fart, i will ask the first one...

You know we have talent here across several genres. I've been reading writing and contests sites and a thought popped into my head. Wouldn't it be nice if we had a website that branched off from the writing forum where we actually put together and post short stories, poems, etc. Writings we have no intention on submitting anywhere or continuing on with them.

There was one site I found very intriguing. They give quarterly prompt lines and you write a short story 1,500 words. They don't ...

We do procrastinate. And justify it as research, catching up, taking a break, whatever.

I can stare at a screen without moving the mouse just thinking about the next scene. I need to picture it before I can write it.

But I also have found at times, I could use a little help for bouncing a really quick idea off.

Help me?

About half way through on the rewrite, I thought it was a good place to switch from past tense to present. A few lines experiment in present tense looked to work OK and then about the last 800-900 words I could change to future tense.

What's your favorite place to go to write? I love being on the deck, but sometimes the sun is a problem. I have two desks, but I don't use them for writing very often. When we get the gazebo built, I'm moving some writing stuff out there and it will be designed so there is a spot for writing, but until then... the kitchen counter or the coffee table in the living room work.

Besides my bagezo, i would love to be able to sit in a park to write. Someplace where there aren't a lot of distractions, ...

I am finishing my mss, in the process of final polishing before I begin contacting agents, I and have a question regarding chapter numbers and POV changes.

I have been told, in the past, (and maybe I was told erroneously) that every POV change should be marked with the # symbol.

First of all, should every POV change be set up as another chapter?

Secondly - It is okay to mix the two? In other words, chapter 5 maybe have several POV changes within it, so, should I mark those with ...

I read somewhere that when you begin a wip you should first write out your back cover synopsis. This way you have a story line and character traits to follow and you can not get distracted.

I don't know about all of you but I find that most of my wips start with one scene. As that scene plays out into a book the characters grow and go their own way. If I followed a schematic I think my characters would become stereotypically boring. They are like little children; You can tell them what to ...

Say he were squished by a horse, could he die of internal bleeding in say a month? I need him to live that long. Is it possible to sell a slow leak of a kidney (or some other organ that would not kill him immediately) and die of infection? Oh and the story takes place before hospitals and surgeries would easily fix the problem. They still believed blood letting was an actual cure at this time.

I'm slogging through re-re-re--ad nauseum (you get the idea) editing of Ikarias 1. It's turning out to be close to 120K. Following novels, 2 & 3 are 92-95K. I need to bitchslap and coddle them into better shape too.

I'm using flashbacks in several ways--to explain things as the MC & crew go from here to there, setting up the next encounter, to round out characters, to give history, motives, etc.

Book 1: Ikarias Half-Dragon loses and searches for her foster father who happens ...
