What I Learned Today......

Post by TurKeyLurKey on Thu Sep 18, 2008 9:42 pm

There is usually a lesson learned every day. Huge or small..this is the place to share your new found knowledge. Very Happy

Today I realized that cooking white beans with black beans in a slow cooker results in a pot of grey beans. :x

well my dear friend i did not really learn this today for the first time but on certain days the curiousity of my personality tends to confuse-not just me but many others-perhaps i have learned that this is exactyoually what seems to make me grow even at this age-it certainly has made me look at myself and thus have the pleasure of judging others less harshly-which i have no right to do-nice thread kiddo!! I love you

I've learned that it's much easier to keep a house clean if you clean a little bit each day. Okay... I knew this already, but I think it may have finally sunk in.

Ahh ha! A like-thinker. I have a dreadful all-or-nothing, do-everything-in-binges personality, and it is quite honestly something I'm trying to change. So my house doesn't end up looking like a tip requiring days of non-stop work. And it applies to writing equally. I reckon if I'd have written for just 15 minutes each of those evenings I thought, "too busy, too much other work to do" I'd have written a novel in the last year. A friend who I guess you could call quite successful in her field is an interesting person in terms of her philosophy. She tries to add even just 15 minutes a day to some goal, and over a lifetime you end up realising those goals. I screw up by treating everything as though if I haven't got 5 hours free, it's not worth doing anything. So one tends to end up.. not doing anything.

Oh, do I ever hear that!
I look around my house and realize the legacy I want to leave my kids is buried in debris that's meaningless mostly and it's time to unload and reclaim what's been meaningful to me and to the family. And it's not that hard to let go of certain memories that really weren't that special in the first place.

Kiwi, I know exactly what you mean about the '5 hours free' thing. I wonder where this thought process came from?

You know, I conquered the house thing years ago, keep it to within half an hour or so of company-clean. Middle of the house is somewhat-sacred. Take your crap to your rooms and close the doors. You work at this everyday, not being fanatic, just keeping halfway up. Why can't I ever do the same to conquer myself? I've said it so many times before, just one page, just 250 words. Okay, I'm going to try just for that, just that little bit.

I clean and do laundry on Mondays and Fridays. That way, nothing has been neglected long enough to be a major chore. Mr. Turkey does the dishes and he always cleans the kitchen, so that is cleaned at least once/day.

I also learned something else today....
If one child is sick, the other one will do everything possible to get sick too.
