I gots questions about bringin' in the sheaves!
Okay, I've got my poetical stuff together to be sorted so maybe I can get some polished for book form. Some have dates and some don't. Should I even worry about that or should I just go with my theme of each piece to sort them? I'm one of the worst organized people, but I'm pretty good at following directions. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! :)

I wouldn't worry about the dates unless there is some significance to it... like it was written on valentines day or 9/11 or something like that. just my

Re: I gots questions about bringin' in the sheaves!
When poetry uses specific dates in titles, it's usually to indicate that it was written sporadically (Written on London Bridge 14/10/1981, for example) -- and when grouped by date in an anthology or chapbook, in most cases it's not the date written but previously published. This is why Drummond's poems of 1616 is a body of work dated between a number of years.
So, unless there's any actual reason for using dates to catalogue your poetry, theme is more than sufficient.

How do you figure out what pieces to include in a book if your writing topics and styles are all over the place? Do you offer what you want the world to hear or do you offer what you think the world wants to hear? A combination of both?
I'd ask these questions privately, but maybe it will help someone else seeing responses.

Re: I gots questions about bringin' in the sheaves!
i think a bit of both, Bobbi. the diversity is good and keeps the attention. giving the people what they want is always good, slipping in your own message and perspective with that is also good, because then your message will be heard a bit better. I would say it is like being a good politician -- tell the people's what they want to hear while teaching them to love what you have to say -- but a good politician is just too much of an oxymoron for a friday morning.
