If you could redo any book cover

Post by nessam dorma on Wed Sep 10, 2008 12:55 am

which would it be?

I have to design a book cover for a class. Any book cover. Which one is so bad that needs to be redone or just a fun one to do?

I also have to reprint a book (that no longer has rights, Dracula, Pride and Prejudice, etc.) I will be formatting the entire thing.

Any ideas?

Dracula could be interesting done as it is in letters. And the cover could be as simple as a pair of fangs on a black cover. Or how about an old play. I absolutely loved The Dollhouse. If you've never read it, it will be a great treat while working on your project. I'm jealous. Come back and tell us what you learn.

All the learning will be in software usage, which is also very fun for me. I've been thinking about Dracula but I also kind of want to do something more challenging. I am willing to bet that my instructor has seen that cover a thousand times.

However, when I do the typographic design Dracula would pose a challenge due to it's diary type nature.

Once the cover is done (mid Oct) I will post a pic.

Cool! I'll look forward to seeing what you come up with. If you are also an artist, great. If not, I suggest you keep it simpler, maybe not just fangs, but simple. I did an interesting Xmas card once with just an outline of Madonna and child. My husband the artist poo-pooed my design, but since I've seen many similar cards. I should have tried to do something with it years ago. Simple can be offset by choosing a compelling line to go along with it. Anyhow, just food for thought. Go knock 'em dead.

Fortunately you don't have to draw to design a cover. It is more about taking pictures and layering them in the software.

Need a back cover copy

Post by nessam dorma on Fri Oct 03, 2008 8:30 pm

This is the original off my copy.
I need to rewrite it.

Dead for centuries, yet he walks, the earth-the most horrifying villain ever imagined, the bloodthirsty vampire-Count Dracula. He hides from the light of day and emerges by night in a never-ending search for victims. Once they have strengthened him with their blood, they are doomed to become vampires like him. The only way to end Dracula's reign of terror is to face the danger of a fate worse than death.

I will rewrite and get opinions in a moment. Let me know if you have any ideas in the meantime.
