Thanks T, very interesting. I read through some of the past short story winners listed. They have a certain sameness to them that gives you almost a guideline to shoot at while writing. I can see any one of us taking that $1500 this coming fall. We should keep that in mind, too.

Kerr, I think we should all try for it. I'd love to see myself or someone from here get the prize, how cool would that be.Kerr wrote:Thanks T, very interesting. WHOOPS! Sorry, I meant people could enter the Twelfth Annual Poetry Contest. The discovery is a 10-page manuscript.

Re: "Discovery" / Boston Review 2009 Poetry Contest
That ten page manuscript they talk about I think refers to five poems no longer than two pages each. So, it could be quite a bit less than ten pages, with one poem per page. At least, that's how I read it. I did wonder though if the $10.00 covered all five poems?

Just curious if anyone is planning on entering the Twelfth Annual Poetry contest? If so, have you started your poem? Asked for a critique? I need to know these things.

Re: "Discovery" / Boston Review 2009 Poetry Contest
Can someone explain what, "Manuscripts must be submitted in duplicate, with a cover note listing the author's name, address, and phone number; names should not be on the poems themselves?" I want to submit my poems, but I'm a bit confused on a few of the instructions such as 'manuscripts must be submitted in duplicate' and 'Submit up to five unpublished poems, no more than 10 pages total'.
First, when they say submit manuscripts in duplicate, do they mean send two or double-space?
Second, should each poem start on a new page?
I'd really appreciate it if someone could shed some light on this since it's my first poetry contest I plan to submit to.

Re: "Discovery" / Boston Review 2009 Poetry Contest
they want two copies of whatever is sent in. Each poem should start on a fresh page.
I think they also are requesting that on the actual pages of the submission you do not put your name, but only the name of the poem, and then include a cover sheet that has your information and a list of the poems you are submitting. This way, they have a record of what you sent in, but the judges have no access to the names of the authors so they cannot be influenced.
